The Skinny on Online Grocery Coupons

Sooner or later we all find ourselves anxiously awaiting the Sunday paper, so that we can clip all of those grocery coupons, before we have to go shopping. While many people use grocery coupons on a regular basis, many more don’t. People often think that it is a waste of their time to look for, clip, and sort grocery coupons, but think of all the money they could save if they did? So, with the advances we have made in modern technology, we have now found a way to make getting those valuable grocery coupons much easier, thanks to the Internet.

Sure, you can still wait on the Sunday newspaper and get your coupons the old fashioned way if you wish, but you could get even more if you also used the coupons that can be found online as well. If you have never used online grocery coupons before, and are unsure of how they work, I will try to explain things to you, so that you are more comfortable with the whole process.

Grocery coupons that you find online are most often used in the same way that you use your Sunday newspaper coupons, except you print them out at home. You still have to take them to the store with you, unless you shop online, and you still have to wait while the cashier scans them into the system. You don’t have to spend money to get them, as long as you already have internet access, a computer, and a printer, and you can get all you want in just a few minutes, rather than taking all that time to cut them out. You can likely find many more coupons online than you can find in your newspaper, saving even more money, and making your grocery budget stretch even farther.

There are many websites online that offer free grocery coupons, and it isn’t all that difficult to find them. In most instances, there are many types of coupons for many different items all on one site, so you don’t have to search all over the place trying to find coupons for the products that you use.

Many manufacturers post coupons on their websites, so if you have a favorite name brand product, you might want to look at the manufacturer’s site. You can find coupons on just about any name brand product using this method, especially for new products.

Depending on what grocery stores are located in your area, you may also be able to find great money saving store coupons as well, especially for the larger chain stores, such as Food Lion, Lowes, and Harris Teeter. These coupons can only be used at that specific store, so you couldn’t take a coupon that you got from the Food Lion website and use it at the Harris Teeter store near your home. Since most of us tend to have one favorite store anyway, this rarely poses an issue.

Before you jump online and start getting coupon happy, it is a good idea to check with your local grocery stores to see if they will accept printed online coupons, as many do not. Some will tell that if they can scan the bar code into their system they will take the coupon, as long as they don’t have to enter it by hand. Scammers have learned to create their own fake coupons, which ends up costing the store money, which is why some stores are leery of printed coupons. Don’t waste your printer ink until you know for sure that you can use the coupons you print.
